Vandalised cars in Valley Condo carpark

Vandalised cars in Valley Condo carpark.
More than 20 cars were vandalised in our neighbourhood with spray paints and penknife marks causing distress and unhappiness to the victims of the car owners.
Mr Tan, who's car has been damaged, said his wife has seen a suspicious acting man at the carpark at 4:30am. Upon taking closer look of the car, she realised that it has been vandalised, and the man fled after seeing her.

It was in April, during the condo management's annual general meeting, that the residents realised how serious the problem was. They found out that several residents experienced an average of three incidents of vandalism.

According to Mrs Ang, who took the pictures of the vandalism that has been made, mention that it is very disrespectful and could not believe there are such people who will do these around in Valley Street neighbourhood. She hope that such cases will stop and also to paste warning around the carpark and the notice boards under each block to warn the troublemakers. She also feels that CCTVs should be installed in the carpark to catch the troublemakers as to make the security tighter in the area.

Vandalism of vehicles

Recently, there have been numerous cases of unreported petty crimes happen in Valley Street neighborhood. One of the cases is the vandalism of vehicles. Many of the vehicles were vandalized with paints; however, those criminals got away scot free.  In order to be able to nab the criminals as soon as possible to prevent this from happening again, I suggest the residents to take their valuables with them and not leaving them in their vehicles, so that they won’t lose them. On top of that, the residents should also park their vehicles near CCTVs in the car park. Beside this, residents can also suggest to install more CCTVs. Residents should also report to the police straight away when they witness vandalism. Policemen should also petrol around the area often to see if there are any people that look suspicious, when the incident occurs, the policemen can also reach the scene in a shorter time as they will be nearby there. Residents should play a part to look out for suspicious person. I believe with the help of everyone, criminals will be nabbed before things got worse and the residents can also stop worrying for their safety, continue their peaceful life. Everybody should do their part to ensure the safety of the neighborhood as it affects every single one of the resident.

Valley Street: Car Vandalism

Vandalism on Valley Street

Written by: Erin Pang

There has been many cases of vandalism reported lately, may of which occurred on Valley Street. As a resident on Valley Street, I am very concerned about these incidents. I have contacted some of the residents who have been affected by these vandalism acts on their property. All of them expressed anger towards the culprit and disappointment towards the police force. They are wondering why is the culprit not captured yet even after 6 months.

Here are some pictures of the many incidents that happened.

As you can see for yourself, paint has been splashed onto the car and the others were scratched maliciously.
These damages have incurred unnecessary expenses for the owners who have to repair them. The touch up jobs usually cost from $200-$400 from what I heard from the residents.

It was a pity that there were no surveillance cameras in the neighborhood to capture the image of the culprit who vandalized the cars. Some of the residents have also gathered together to submit a proposal to the town council to set up several cameras at car-park areas. It has been a month since then but they still have not sent a reply to the residents.

Another thing to note is that in the eyes of the law in Singapore, vandalism is only a criminal act when done on Government property. It is only a case of mischief when someone vandalizes personal property. This may be the reason why the police has not taken severe actions against the culprits.

If you have seen any similar incidents happening in your neighborhood, be sure to report them. It would be best if all of us could work together to capture the offenders red-handed. We must be vigilant to prevent any other incidents from happening. Just put yourself in the victims shoes, you would not want your personal property to be vandalized too, would you?

Vandalism happening in Valley Street

Vandalism happening in Valley Street.

Recently, there had been a few reported cases of cars within Valley Street being vandalised by people which are yet to be identified. Cars are left with scratches on the doors or the front and back of the car, some had broken windows and some having dents like the picture below.

These vandalism acts must not be overlooked no matter how small the damage caused. These incidents will most likely continue occur until the people responsible are caught but until then, if you do not wish these problems to happen to you, you can follow some of these advice to reduce the chances of becoming the victim.
  •          Park your car in a well-lit and populated area.

This is because it makes it harder for people to vandalise your car without being seen thus discouraging them making it less likely for the people responsible for the vandalism to target your car as they do not want to be caught.
  •            Investing in a high-quality security alarm.

This may help because it also discourages the people responsible for the vandalism to target your car as they are afraid that they might be caught because someone nearby heard the alarm go off.
  •           Security surveillance systems.

A well placed security camera can most of the time serve as enough of a warning to people that they can be identified if they decide to vandalise your car. This keeps them from targeting your car as they do not want to be caught.

Though following these steps may help in the current situation, it is not a 100% guarantee that it will not still happen thus, it is important that we all play a part in bringing these people to justice as soon as possible so as to reduce the amount of damage caused. If you spot anyone that looks suspicious for example wearing something that may block their identity or has possession of anything that can be used to vandalise such as a pocket knife, do not engage the person directly, but contact the police at once. If you want to take a bigger step in helping with the situation, you can petrol around the area in your free time and report any suspicious people to the police, again to not engage the person directly if he or she is in possession of something dangerous. Please help play a part in keeping the neighborhood safe for everyone! Thank You for your time!
